A classic feature of overwater bungalows is the private pool, most usually an infinity pool, on the terrace overlooking the ocean.
Some may consider this an unnecessary feature - a pointless extravagance - seeing as you probably have some of the world's most inviting waters just feet below you already.
The pool isn't trying to compete with the ocean though. The first thing a private pool has, which the ocean doesn't, is a raised view of the ocean. A lovely aesthetic that looks particularly good in photos.
The second is that no matter how private the section of the sea surrounding your bungalow may be it can never be fully secluded. The private pool though is tucked away on the terrace, thereby hidden from the view of your fellow guests.

Overwater Bungalows Fiji - An Overview
Fiji has long attracted tourists with its stunning natural beauty and has, over the years, developed a great reputation for hospitality.
It has, not surprisingly therefore, quite a few excellent resorts but only three that actually have overwater bungalows. These are the Marriott Momi Bay, Likuliku Lagoon and Koro Sun resorts.
The first, Marriott Momi Bay is on the main island of Viti Levu, very near Nadi and its international airport, as well as the famous WW2 era Momi Gun Site.
Likuliku is on a lovely little island just off the coast of Nadi, with speedboats available to whisk you there in mere minutes.
Koro Sun then is the most remote - on Fiji's less developed second island of Vanua Levu. It requires a short domestic flight to Savusavu but once there the resort's shuttle service can get you to the resort in just 15 minutes.
The first two are luxury resorts, particularly the Marriott Momi Bay while the latter, Koro Sun, is more mid range and therefore cheaper.
Both Likuliku and Koro Sun have their own nature reserves and offer more of a rustic, back to nature experience while The Marriott is about pure, Epicurean indulgence.
All three resorts have their overwater bungalows section adults only though Koro Sun also offers some family friendly overwater villas.
