  • The 5 Star Conrad Bora Bora Nui is located in a private cove on Motu To’opua, a tiny island off the southwest end of Bora Bora’s mainland and faces out to the open ocean. The setting is secluded and romantic and the resort has its own, even more secluded and romantic, private island, Motu Tapu, which is accessible only to guests.

Their hilltop Hina Spa has soothing treatments and tremendous panoramic views, there are four excellent dining options, a large infinity pool and pool bar, and some some lovely stretches of the purest of white sands. The Conrad is family friendly; it has its own Kid’s Club, but overall the atmosphere is one of romance and relaxed, indulgent tranquility.

The one slight drawback with the Conrad is that the waters there at the ocean’s edge have not got quite the same dreamy calm as those around the sheltered lagoon where for example the Intercontinental, the St. Regis and the Four Seasons are located. That being said though there is something quite affecting about gazing out towards the almost infinite open ocean.

    THE ACCOMMODATION:

They have a total of 114 accommodation units at the Conrad, with a choice between overwater, beach and garden. The Conrad, in its previous incarnation as a Hilton, was the first resort in Bora Bora to offer the now ubiquitous overwater bungalows and these are, of course, the most desired and as plush and opulent as you may imagine.

They all offer lots of space too, with the smallest on offer covering around 1200 ft². They have sleek and stylish interiors, King size beds and wall to wall sliding doors opening out to a large deck where you have direct access to the sea, lounging and dining furniture and an outdoor shower. Some, the ‘Pool Villas’, also come with an infinity plunge pool and overwater catamaran style hammock nets to sink into.

The Beach Villas though are also really quite gorgeous and compare well to the overwaters. Sitting on the beach, just feet from the water, they the same luxurious standards and also come with infinity style plunge pools as standard, overlooking the sand and the sea.

Then there are the Garden Suites. They are situated in the garden area just behind the beach. They are spacious and equally beautifully designed and decorated, though the ‘Garden View’ choices don’t have much of a view. The pick of them therefore are the ‘Horizon View Villas’ which are higher up on the hill and have terrific views over the resort and the ocean beyond.

Throughout the accommodation choices you can expect modern facilities worthy of The Conrad’s 5 Star status; A/C, mini bar, coffee makers, flat screen TVs and top of the range music systems. All the bathrooms are suitably opulent at this resort with lovely deep baths, rain showers, a range of quality pampering products and oodles of space.

    FACILITIES & THINGS TO DO:

A wonderful buffet and a la carte breakfast is served daily at the resort’s signature, and very lovely, Iriati Restaurant. Here you can also enjoy some excellent French food and wine for lunch and dinner. The more informal, sand floored, Tamure Beach Grill sits right by the beach and the pool, serves lunch daily and also has drinks and various themed dinners on some evenings.

Then there are the Banyan, a Chinese restaurant, the Upa Upa Lounge, a part cocktail bar-part sushi restaurant which also does various snacks until late, and the very casual swim-up bar at the resort’s centerpiece infinity pool.

Private dining can also be arranged at The Conrad, with a particularly nice option being a private beach dinner or picnic on the resort’s own secluded island, Motu Tapu, and you can order in-room dining 24 hours a day.

Named after a Polynesian goddess, the Hina Spa sits on the hill behind the resort and has tremendous views from its floor to ceiling windows. It has an array of treatments, indoor and outdoor treatment decks, a couple’s room with jacuzzi, and a steam room/sauna.

Water sports are plentiful here with complimentary non-motorized water sports equipment available; paddle boats, kayaks and snorkel gear for example, with the snorkeling around the Conrad being arguably the very best on Bora Bora.

Lots of more hardcore activities such as scuba diving, kite surfing and jet skiing can also be arranged and on dry land you can use the complimentary bikes to explore the resort, go hiking around the hills, either guided or solo, and play a round of tennis or mini golf.

Their Fitness Center has state of the art equipment, both cardio and weights, and is accessible 24 hours a day. Personal training and fitness classes are also available and the resort also has a 2.5-kilometer scenic running track.

There are daily tournaments for guests to partake in at The Conrad, more for fun than competition, including things like kayak racing, mini-golf, beach volleyball and tennis.

The Conrad also does educational programs, and organizes bespoke excursions with native guides where guests can learn everything from the ukulele and the Tahitian language to Coco leaf braiding and traditional Polynesian tattooing. On-site you can also get a feel for local culture with some evening dance and story telling performances accompanied by traditional Polynesian food and drink.

Children will be well looked after at the Tamari’i Kids Club which has separate zones for up to, and over 7 years, and babysitting services are also available. There is a great concierge service too at the Conrad with guests being invited to download a special Conrad Concierge app on arrival.

    REVIEWS:

“The Conrad was truly magical. We cant put into words how beautiful it was and how special our stay was. We were lucky enough to choose here for our honeymoon and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The staff were fantastic and the service was outstanding. For an extra treat the spa options are wonderful and the location is insane with views of the resort and incredible scenery….”

“10* resort. Absolutely in love with the Conrad: Exceptional staff and facilities, phenomenal food, especially in Iriati the French restaurant, and absolutely awesome views. I have never and probably will never be anywhere as top class for the rest of my life….”

    Maitai Bora Bora

    2.14 miles
    Address: Route de Ceinture
    French Polynesia
    France
Category: Adults Only Overwater Bungalows, Overwater Bungalows for Honeymoons, and Resorts with Concierge
Maitai Polynesia is a charming little resort in the south of Bora Bora by Matira Point Beach, just below the InterContinental Le Moana. It offers the cheapest luxury overwater bungalow experience in Bora Bora. This might be possible because they seem to have pared back some of the more expensive, but maybe unnecessary for many people frills – things such as a swimming pool, private airport transfer to the resort (though there is private transfer from Vaitape, and you can get there easily, and cheaply, by public ferry from the airport) and an excess of choice in terms of restaurants, bars and other facilities. For a lot of people this is an easy trade off, especially seeing that guests at Maitai have complimentary access to the facilities of the InterContinental just a few minutes walk away. Note: Maitai is placed in our adults only category as, though children can stay in some other parts of the resort, the overwater bungalows are strictly adults only. THE ACCOMMODATION: The resort has a nice range of options – overwater bungalows, bungalows on the beach or in the gardens of the resort and some rooms farther back and higher up which have lovely ocean views. All are stylish, spacious and super comfortable and include air conditioning, satellite TV and a minibar plus the overwater bungalows have a glass table and floor to allow guests to watch the sea life below their feet. Note: Rather surprisingly in this day and age the WiFi can be very weak in many rooms, in particular the overwater bungalows. In the hotel common areas though it works just fine.  The overwater bungalows are great value but they might now have they same wow factor as the other resorts in Bora Bora, being quite close to the shore and relatively close to one other. But, they are much cheaper and again, for what they offer, great value. PRICES: Check out all the details – prices, reviews & more photos, on the booking page here. FACILITIES & THINGS TO DO: The resort is relatively small but has two bars and two high quality (and good value) restaurants serving Tahitian, French and READ MORE

    InterContinental Le Moana Bora Bora

    2.26 miles
    Address: InterContinental Le Moana
    French Polynesia
    France
Category: Family Friendly Resorts, Overwater Bungalows for Honeymoons, Overwater Bungalows with Glass Floor, and Resorts with Concierge
The InterContinental Le Moana lies along Matira Point at the southern end of Bora Bora’s main island and is, as the name suggests, a sister hotel of the InterContinental Thalasso across the lagoon which has a greater range of facilities, all of which guests at this InterContinental can access via shuttle boat. It doesn’t have the same broad choice of accommodation as its sister hotel and many will consider the Thalasso branch, as it looks directly across the lagoon at the towering Mount Otemanu, to have a more scenic setting. Intercontinental Le Moana also has an extremely idyllic location though it must be said, nestling snugly as it does between the gorgeous white sands of Matira Point and the lush tropical hills behind. It also offers equal amounts of luxury, service and style, and has an understated charm that may be lacking in the larger resort. Its smaller size, more convivial atmosphere, greater access to the main island and lower prices may just make it more preferable for many guests. THE ACCOMMODATION: The Le Moana, as mentioned, doesn’t have the same range of accommodation on offer as the Thalasso, nor are the bungalows and villas on offer as large. Their standard size is 560 ft² with the largest being only a tad larger at 670 ft². That being said they are just as luxurious and beautifully designed and decorated, and have a more intimate, cosy feel. So, if you don’t feel like paying premium prices just for extra space they will work out much better value. The choices are overwater bungalows and beach villas both of which are stylish and sleek, and filled with modern comforts, with the overwaters all coming with a glass bottomed coffee table through which you can peer down into the coral reef. They also have gorgeous views out over the lagoon and the nearby islands of Raiatea and Taha’a, a positive also shared by the beach villas which sit right at the edge of the powder like white sands. All luxury hotel standard facilties are here: air-con, WiFi, cable TVs, music system, coffee makers, refrigerators & mini bars, and the bathrooms are all equipped with READ MORE

    Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island

    2.72 miles
    Address: Bora Bora
    French Polynesia
    France
Category: 5 Star Overwater Bungalows, Adults Only Overwater Bungalows, Overwater Bungalows for Honeymoons, Overwater Resorts with Spa, and Resorts with Concierge
The very lovely, and very intimate, strictly adults only, Sofitel Bora Bora has its own private island with crystal clear waters and coral gardens just two minutes boat ride from the southern end of the main Island, or a 30 minutes boat shuttle ride direct from Bora Bora Airport. The Sofitel has just 30 bungalows & villas and so is very much a boutique resort, and most certainly a place for peace, quiet and indulgent calm and contentment. Especially given that the entire island is child free – the only adults only overwater resort in Bora Bora. THE ACCOMMODATION: This intimate oasis is particularly geared towards couples and honeymooners and so all its accommodation choices are doubles. There are two types of villa on offer; twenty classic overwater bungalows out on the lagoon and ten more private jungle lodges surrounded by trees and overlooking the water. Both are roughly the same size, and at around 370 ft² are relatively small. They all come with King size bed as standard though, as well as a living space, an outdoor terrace/sun lounge and private access to the water. Expect all standard luxury hotel mod cons here, and excellent room service. Concierge services are available too, and happy to oblige all sorts of requests. PRICES: Check out all the details – prices, reviews & more photos, on the booking page here. FACILITIES & THINGS TO DO: You can enjoy gourmet Polynesian and French food, as well as quality French wines (it has an extensive wine cellar), at the Manu Tuki Restaurant. It has a very lovely setting, with views over the peaceful lagoon, and of the towering Mount Otemanu away in the distance. Moving on from there you can enjoy some beautifully crafted cocktails, and other drinks at the cosy Mako Bar, which has similarly beautiful views from its wooden terrace and also serves food and snacks throughout the day. If you want to make any day or evening extra special all sorts of romantic extras are available, such as gourmet dining on the beach or sunset champagne evenings with traditional Polynesian dance shows. Private, bespoke arrangements can also be made, for the READ MORE
