Sandals South Coast is a 5-star, adults-only, all-inclusive luxury resort within a 500-acre private nature reserve along Jamaica’s southwest coast.
It’s one of only three resorts with overwater bungalows in Jamaica, and, heads-up now, though we prefer Caribbean Cay’s larger Elite bungalows, overall this is our favorite resort of the three.
It’s not nearly as convenient from Sangster Airport as Sandals Caribbean Cay, that’s true, but the trade off is you get a more exclusive, secluded natural enviornment.
A massive 500-acre private nature reserve to be exact, far removed from the tourist hubs.
So it’s a whole different feel to Caribbean Cay in Montego Bay.
The journey takes a little than an hour and a half from Sangster, by luxury transfer.
The resort reopens on November 18, 2026, following renovations after Hurricane Melissa.
It is of course available to book right now, and we’d say get in there quick as, having been closed for more than a year, there’s a lot of pent up demand.

Plush Luxury Over the Water with Private Butlers
The 1,100-square-foot overwater bungalows are exceptionally plush, with outdoor sun decks, soaking tubs and overwater hammocks, glass floor panels, plush lounge-bedroom areas, and spa-style bathrooms.
Guests in the overwater section receive personal butler service as standard, alongside an exclusive in-room dining and room service menu.

Food, Facilities & Things to Do
Dining is a major highlight , as it is with most Sandals to be fair, with nine specialty restaurants serving up European, Asian, and Caribbean cuisine.
It’s a bit quieter at South Coast than most Sandals’s resorts but you’ve still got yourself eleven bars with all inclusive premium drinks and nightly entertainment.
So, it can get lively but the overwater section is well removed from any noise.
Other amenities at Sandals South Coast include multiple swimming pools, the Red Lane Spa with a yoga-pilates studio, and a nice range of complimentary water sports such as scuba diving, waterskiing, and kayaking, plus land sports like tennis and beach volleyball.

Our Verdict
We think of Sandals South Coast as a sprawling, nature-infused luxury paradise that combines exceptional dining with peaceful, secluded overwater living.
If you want a wide variety of on-site restaurants and activities paired with the privacy, and greater calm of a nature reserve setting this is for you.
A compromise is the longer transfer time from the airport compared to Montego Bay properties, though the seclusion is well worth the drive, we feel.
The overwater bungalows provide all expected luxury features and have only one price point unlike Sandals Caribbean Cay, which has entry-level bungalows and larger, more expensive villas.
Caribbean Cay’s Elite bungalows, are the best in Jamaica we feel, but for a romantic break, we actually prefer South Coast overall due to its more relaxed atmosphere and natural surroundings.
The former might be more convenient, as it’s so close to Montego Bay Airport, but Jamaica is a small island, and Sandals South Coast is only an hour and a half away, by luxury private transfer.
Prices are high but Sandals do have regular, generous, price deals.
