Sandals Overwater Bungalows
> Our Methodology
Sandals have some very popular 5-star all-inclusives around the Caribbean but just four of them have overwater bungalows. And these are:
Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica,
Sandals South Coast in Westmoreland, Jamaica,
Sandals Grande St. Lucian in St. Lucia,
Sandals St. Vincent.
Here we review Sandals’ overwater bungalows %%in_location_country%% plus what to expect from their all-inclusive packages in general, along with all booking information, and any current deals, etc., etc.
Note: Be aware that there is a minimum stay of three nights at all Sandals’ resorts.
Overwater Bungalows in Jamaica – A Taste of the Maldives in the Caribbean
It’s no Bora Bora just yet, but we’re happy to report that Jamaica now has three resorts with luxury overwater bungalows.
These are:
Where in Jamaica Are They?
Sandals Caribbean Cay is on its own private island, just five miles from Montego Bay Airport, which has direct flights from many major U.S. cities.
You can, therefore, potentially be diving into the sea from your overwater bungalow in less than half an hour after landing in Jamaica.
The other Sandals resort, Sandals South Coast, is about an hour and a half away from the airport, by Sandals’ luxury transfer, and is more secluded and quieter. It is set on Jamaica’s southwestern coast near the little town of Whitehouse.
Princess Senses The Mangrove is in Green Island on Jamaica’s northwest coast, on the shores of Negro Bay, roughly between Negril and Montego Bay. It sits alongside the larger Princess Grand Jamaica, which guests have full access to.
Are They Luxury Resorts?
These three resorts are top-of-the-range 5 Star all-inclusives, some of the best all-inclusives in the Caribbean in fact.
Their overwater bungalows are similarly impressive, with large outside decks and private pools. Plus modern tech, and quality furniture & fittings.
The two Sandals resorts, but not Princess Senses, also have those classic glass floor panels via which you can watch the sea life below.
Are the Overwater Bungalows All-Inclusive?
Yes. All three resorts are 5 Star all-inclusives, so the overwater bungalow experience comes with the food, drinks and extensive resort facilities and activities that you would expect from a luxury all-inclusive.
That is worth bearing in mind when comparing prices with overwater resorts elsewhere, where meals and drinks are charged separately.
Is Jamaica a Good Alternative to the Maldives & Bora Bora for Overwater Bungalows?
It absolutely is! Particularly if you are traveling from the United States or Canada. Jamaica is just so much easier to reach than either the Maldives or Bora Bora, with direct flights from almost every major US airport, and it’s in a similar time zone.
You may not get (quite) the same remote, tropical island experience as you would in Bora Bora or the Maldives, but if you want luxury overwater accommodation without traveling, bleary eyed, halfway around the world for it, Jamaica is a terrific option.
Our Favorites – Which Ones Did We Like the Most?
For us, Sandals South Coast is our favourite resort of the three. It is considerably more secluded than Sandals Caribbean Cay, and we just love the natural environment surrounding it.
That said, Sandals Caribbean Cay has the best overwater bungalows, we feel.
As a resort we don’t find it quite as enjoyable for a romantic break as South Coast but it has a just unbeatable location mere minutes from Montego Bay Airport.
Princess Senses The Mangrove provides a very good alternative to the two established Sandals resorts, and is a tad cheaper, but we still prefer the two Sandals overall.
Sounds Terrific! But What Are the Prices Like in 2026?
Sadly, prices are not cheap. In 2026 budget at the very least $2,000 USD per night for a stay in a Sandals’ overwater bungalow in Jamaica.
Princess Senses The Mangrove will set you back a few hundred dollars less, but not much less.
All these resorts are 5 Star all-inclusives though, it should be mentioned again.

JamaicaSandals South Coast is one of three resorts in Jamaica offering overwater bungalows, alongside Sandals Caribbean Cay and Princess Senses The Mangrove. Set within a vast 500-acre nature reserve on Jamaica’s quieter southwestern coast near Whitehouse, it feels more secluded, romantic and in touch with nature than the other two. The overwater bungalows here are arranged in a calm, dedicated section of the resort, slightly set back from the main village-style accommodation clusters. Each spans around 1,100 square feet and… > Read More -

They effectively set the template that later expanded to other Sandals resorts in Jamaica and St Lucia, but to our mind their Deluxe Category Bungalows, with private infinity pools, are still the best overwater bungalows in the Caribbean. All bungalows though are sleek luxury, with glass floor panels, outdoor soaking tubs and showers, spacious sun decks and direct access to the sea,… > Read More
